Tall Daum Orchids Vase*
Item Description
Baluster shaped cameo glass vase from Daum depicting golden-yellow wild orchids, enhanced with additional enamelling detail.
The frosted glass is coloured inside with mottled orange and yellow shades while the outside displays the acid etched flowers on delicate stems and long strappy leaves. The orchids are shown growing amongst seeding wild grasses in a natural setting.
The flared circular base is enamelled in the same colour combination of dull golds and greens and the whole effect is extremely elegant.
On the underside of the base there is an old fault which traverses the pontil, but this is an original blemish dating from the time of manufacture and is only mentioned for accuracy as the vase still displays beautifully. For this reason the pontil was left unpolished.
A super vase, dating from around 1910 and 42 cm in height.
