Skønvirke Silver and Amber Brooch*
Item Description
Boldly eyecatching Danish Skønvirke silver brooch consisting of three linked components, each smaller than the one above.
The uppermost main section has a gently arching top outline and shows a lightly hammered finish to the swirling design on each side. An ornate pattern of curlicews encircle the large amber focal point which, with its unusual setting, gives the impression of an opening flower.
Beneath this are suspended three amber beads and, on two short lengths of chain, the mid section is formed as two sprays of leaves, each with a little amber flower bud.
Finally the drop consists of a teardrop shaped amber bead emerging from its leafy bud.
A striking brooch with a definite look of designs by Evald Nielsen. However we are unable to confirm this as it is simply marked on the back with the initials SJ (probably the original retailer) and for 826 silver.
Circa 1910-15 and a good size at 11.5 cm long by 7.5 cm wide.
