Silver-Gilt and Silver Ornate Necklace
Item Description
Ornate necklace with silver-gilt detail, coloured stones and silver chainwork.
A series of convex silver-gilt discs, the central one being larger than the other four, are each decorated with a design of silver flowers and scrolls edging a faceted coloured glass stone. The discs are separated by ornate filigree work in silver-gilt and also by short double lengths of silver chain. Three loops of chain are suspended either side of the centre and between these little openwork ball-shaped drops hang down, matching the slightly longer central drop.
The double neck chain continues the design theme all along its length, still retaining the original barrel type clasp.
Probably Austro-Hungarian in origin and dating from the late 1800's. Marked on the reverse with a monogram which looks to be AG or perhaps GA, and also with the silver content.
Total length is around 46 cm.
