Plique-à-Jour Flower Basket*
Item Description
Delightful little silver gilt and plique-à-jour enamelled brooch in the form of a basket of flowers, sometimes known as a giardinetto brooch.
The leaves and flower petals are picked out using tiny colourless paste stones whilst the flower centres are highlighted with faceted stones in various colours.
Gilded silver in a rope pattern is used for the edges the basket frame and the handle, with plique-à-jour enamelling in subtle shades of green and purple adding further colour to the basket itself.
From Pforzheim, Germany, circa 1910 and marked on the back with the 935 silver content. Also showing the maker’s mark of Martin Mayer, comprising a wheel and a star.
The width of the brooch is 3.25 cm.
