Murrle Bennett Pendant for Theodor Fahrner
Item Description
Silver pendant designed by Georg Kleeman for Th. Fahrner and made by Murrle Bennett & Co.
The two companies of Fahrner and Murrle Bennett were important business partners and frequently collaberated over certain designs.
Detailed with matt black enamel and set with three oval amazonite cabochons, this particular design was also made as a brooch, and sometimes without the drop.
Semi openwork with a wide, almost heart-shaped outline, the pendant has both a slightly dished and also contoured surface giving it a distinctly three-dimensional look, and even the back is decoratively worked.
Marked MB&Co and for 950 silver, and measuring 4 cms. long including the drop, by a fraction over 3.5 cms. wide.
The silver necklace chain has a length of approximately 47 cms.
N.B. Illustrated as a brooch on p. 110 of the Fahrner book published by Schiffer, where it is dated as 1901.
