Paul Grandhomme Carved Mother-of-Pearl Necklace
Item Description
French Art Nouveau necklace by Paul Victor Grandhomme (1851-1944) dating from circa 1900.
Comprising a circular bas-relief carved mother-of-pearl plaque depicting a female nude rising out of the waves, set in a silver mount.
Possibly a one-off, this is a quite beautiful piece of work from an artist better known for the superb enamels he produced, examples of which can be seen in the Musée d’Orsay and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Attached to a long silver chain interspersed with sets of mother-of-pearl beads in threes, the same theme continued with the drop.
Signed Grandhomme in the mother-of-pearl and 6 cm in diameter, with the chain measuring approximately 77 cm in length.
