Mirror and Vide Poche
Item Description
Art Nouveau figural mirror and vide poche made by Johann Maresch, signed to one side by the artist Aug Olla (Augustus Olla) and showing the year of 1907.
Moulded in what appears to be white terracotta, it depicts a young maiden in a diaphanous gown standing by an old tree, next to a lion’s head fountain spilling water into a lily pond. There is an opening at the top of the tree which would probably have been for tapers or matches.
Very Nouveau in style and appearance and the figure reflects nicely in the arch-topped removable mirror which is not the original.
Impressed mark JM together with numbers on the underside. The height to the top of the mirror is 47 cm. A delightful piece in sound, if somewhat aged condition.
