Limoges Gold Portrait Brooch
Item Description
Convex circular 18 ct. gold brooch set in the centre with a Limoges enamelled profile portrait of a young lady.
Set against a dark background, the subtle shades of the girl's skin tones and her dark red hair contrast beautifully with the vivid colours on her headwear and bodice.
The openwork surrounding frame is ornately patterned, showing a scrolling detail divided by six heart shapes, the tips of which extend just beyong the outer rim. Each of the hearts has a little gold ball in its centre.
Signed on the back of the enamel plaque by the artist Thoumieux, Limoges.
No marks apparent other than the signature but the gold has been tested as 18 ct.
Early 1900's and in very good condition with an overall diameter of just a fraction below 4 cm.
