Liberty Brooch Designed by Archibald Knox*
Item Description
Silver brooch with enamel detail designed by Archibald Knox for Liberty’s of London.
An openwork design with a shaped outline which curves sinuously in typical Art Nouveau style, the flowing lines crossing one another in irregular entrelac fashion.
Four randomly shaped areas are enamelled in shades of green and blue, adding further to the very recognisable Liberty look of the brooch.
Illustrated in the book ‘Archibald Knox’ by Stephen A. Martin and shown the same way up as we have photographed it, although the angle of the C clasp indicates that it should be worn flipped over (as shown in our photo 4).
Design number 1186E in the Liberty catalogue of designs and marked on the back Cymric with the Liberty & Co mark. The width is 3 cm.
