Jugendstil Silver and Plique-à-Jour Pendant*
Item Description
Extremely stylish Geman Jugendstil silver and plique-à-jour pendant necklace, unmarked but with an undoubted look of Levinger.
Circular with a crescent moon shaped feature divided into sections and plique-à-jour enamelled in shades graduating from green to almost yellow. In the centre above the crescent is a fine baroque pearl, caged in silver wire.
Below this feature, the design extends downwards on three rods, the outer two dividing further and tapering outwards before finally coming together in an arrowhead.
A pair of circles at the widest point, one on each side, are also plique-à-jour enamelled in the same shade of green and from the bottom of the pendant hang three baroque pearl drops.
Further detail is in the form of three little green glass stones set at equal distances down the centre.
The main pendant is suspended from three short lengths of chain on each side attached to a pair of circular spacers, each set with a seed pearl, before continuing with the necklace chain.
Dating from circa 1900 and almost certainly originating from Pforzheim, the length from the topmost green stone to the bottom of the centre drop is a fraction over 5 cm.
The necklace chain is approximately 41 cm in length measured from the side attachments.
