‘Jeune Femme en Terrasse’ by Dietz Edzard*
Item Description
Oil painting on canvas by the French artist Dietz Edzard (1893-1963) titled ‘Jeune Femme en Terrasse’.
The young woman, who appears in a few of Edzard’s paintings and was perhaps his muse, is seated at a small outdoor table enjoying a glass of red wine.
Stylishly dressed in a pink and white striped dress and wearing cream coloured gloves and a very fetching hat, she has the look of a young Leslie Caron about her and surely could only possibly be French.
A beautifully balanced composition with the subject standing out boldly from the muted bustling city square background behind her.
The painting is in its original frame which we have had professionally brought up to scratch, it having been somewhat knocked about before we acquired it.
Signed lower right and painted circa 1940’s, the visible canvas measures 64 X 48 cm with the overall framed size being around 85 X 70 cm.
