J & F Pool of Hayle Firescreen*
Item Description
Very nicely made Mahogany firescreen with a central copper panel decorated with stylised flowers in the Glasgow School fashion.
Almost certainly made by J & F Pool of Hayle as, although unmarked as is quite usual, it bears characteristics of their work.
Dating from around 1910-15 when Pool were incorporating fashionable Art Nouveau motifs such as this into their designs.
The hammered copper panel is edged with a Greek key pattern detail incorporated into the wooden frame.
In very good condition with no sign of worm damage to the wood.
The height is around 81.5 cm, the width at its widest point is 62.5 and the depth 30cm.
