Hammered Gold and Diamond Portrait Brooch*
Item Description
Circular 18 ct. gold brooch with the enamelled portrait of a very noble looking lady.
She is shown in outline with no background enamel, her image standing out strongly against the hammered gold disc, which somewhat unusually is concave.
This dished shape, apart from looking most attractive, is effective in giving added protection to the enamelling contained in its centre.
The lady’s headdress is criss-crossed and edged with many small diamonds and beneath the green of her bodice there are a further five very slightly larger.
Mounted on a gold frame all around the circumference and with a safety catch to secure the pin when worn.
French, late 1800’s and 3 cm in diameter.
