Goldscheider Country Boy
Item Description
Another fine terracotta statue from Goldscheider. This one dates from c. 1898-99 and is of a young, barefoot country boy wearing a hat that’s a size too large for him and holding a cigarette between his fingers.
He has a lovely boyish face and his feet-apart stance, with one hand in his pocket and his loosely tied scarf, combine to give him a really nonchalant air.
Unsigned and the artist is not recorded in our reference books. It is however marked on the back with the usual Goldscheider markings and the model number 1927.
The cigarette and a finger have been sympathetically professionally restored. Height is around 60 cm.
Lit: Dechant/Goldscheider p. 338 – also Pinhas pp. 36 & 73 showing a larger version, model no. 1487
