French Art Nouveau Silver and Pearl Necklace*
Item Description
Ornate Art Nouveau silver necklace set with a total of sixteen Mississippi pearls, some fixed in position and others on single links.
The silver has been crafted into an elegant and very Art Nouveau open design incorporating overlapping sinuous curves and is further detailed in places with black enamel.
There is a maker’s mark on the back and also on the chain but we have unfortunately not been able to identify it.
Complete with its splendid original chain, the pendant itself measures 6.75 cm wide by 7 cm long to the bottom of the lowest pearl. The full opened out length is 60 cm.
This is probably a one-off piece and comes in its original shaped and fitted leather clad, but somewhat worn box with the name H Bellencontre, Paris inside the lid.
Dating from circa 1900.
