French Art Nouveau Desk Set*
Item Description
Rare, complete and quite wonderful French Art Nouveau brass and copper desk set.
Depicting on the flat surface an aquatic scene of herons, flowering waterside plants, water lilies and even a beetle scurrying across the surface.
Two hovering dragonflies positioned at the front form the pen rest, and there are two hexagonal inkwells with ornately shaped glass ink pots and lids at each end, just inside the back corners.
Raised on four claw feet and pure Art Nouveau dating from the late 19th. century. Typically, it is unsigned so we will never know who designed and made it, but it has survived the intervening years very well and is in good condition, commensurate with its age.
The overall width, including the feet, is around 51 cm and the depth 26 cm.
