Auguste Ollo Terracotta Bust*
Item Description
Art Nouveau polychrome painted terracotta bust by the sculptor Auguste Ollo, produced by the Johann Maresch company in Austria.
A head and shoulders study of a somewhat serious looking young woman wearing sprays of leaves and berries in her hair which is swept behind her and loosely tied at the back.
She looks to be of noble birth, wearing as she is an ornate and rather heavy looking outfit with the small portrait of a man in the centre.
The integral ornate base has a substantial and solid look, its design featuring claw feet and further leaves and berries at the corners.
Signed Aug. Ollo towards the rear on one side and with the JM impressed mark on the underside together with the number 11057.
Dating from the the late 1800’s, the bust measures approximately 46 cm high by a fraction below 37 cm wide and is in excellent condition, commensurate with its age.
