Gold and Sapphire Pendant by John Paul Cooper*
Item Description
Very beautiful pendant crafted in 18 ct. gold by the master jeweller, goldsmith and silversmith John Paul Cooper (1869-1933).
An openwork design with an approximately ovoid outline and featuring a seated young woman surrounded by a garland of leaves and flowers to which she appears to be attending.
She sits on a fine oval sapphire cabochon, its iridescent blue contrasting perfectly with the gold.
Circa 1905-10 and with the maker’s mark on the back together with 18 for 18 ct. gold.
The pendant is on a good 18 ct. gold chain which has Russian marks, this being the chain that was already attached when we acquired it.
Length, including the ornate bale, is the merest fraction over 5 cm with the chain measuring 45 cm.
