Art Nouveau Mirror Locket by Dropsy*
Item Description
French Art Nouveau heart-shaped silver mirror locket designed by Jean-Baptiste-Emile Dropsy (1858-1923).
So typical of his work, depicting as it does an Art Nouveau maiden with her long hair tied in a chignon. She’s surrounded by iris flowers and leaves, which also adorn the reverse side of the locket.
Secured by a little catch at the bottom, the locket opens smoothly to reveal a pair of mirrors, there being room enough inside for a pair of photos or perhaps a small lock of hair.
Dating from the late 1800’s and unsigned but a well documented Dropsy design, although not at all easy to find with this heart shaped outline.
Just a touch over 5.5 cm long, including the fixed ring which bears French silver marks. The width is 4 cm.
Complete with a good Art Nouveau silver chain with a length of 67 cm.
