Art Nouveau Mirror Locket by Dropsy*
Item Description
French Art Nouveau silver-gilt mirror pendant on a 925 silver gilt chain.
Designed by Jean-Baptiste Emile Dropsy (1858-1923), this very finely detailed piece would have been sold by the best Paris retailers and is typical of his work, depicting an Art Nouveau maiden with long, flowing hair enjoying the scent of a carnation.
Secured by a little catch at the bottom, the front smoothly swivels upwards to reveal a bevel-edged mirror.
Dating from the late 1800’s, signed E. Dropsy on the lower part of the border and just a fraction below 5 cm wide.
N.B. A similar piece but in the form of a brooch is illustrated on page 99 of the Vivienne Becker book, Art Nouveau Jewelry.
